“The 2010 Barrett-Jackson Edition ROUSH Mustang ties two leading automotive brands together in an amazing package combining performance and unique styling,” said Jack Roush. “People who drive a regular production ROUSH Mustang are used to getting plenty of second looks. The concept vehicleconcept vehicle will be auctioned to the highest bidder on Saturday, April 3 at the Barrett-Jackson event in Palm Beach, Fla.; the car is expected to be shown live during the SPEED broadcast. This Mustang will be painted with a base of metallic “Back in Black” with “Red Hot Chili Pepper” stripes on the front. This car will be the model for a run of up to 25 units based on the 2010 Mustang, and an additional 25 units on the 2011 chassis.

“The only thing faster than this muscular ROUSH Mustang concept set to go across the auction block will be the bidding,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “With the ROUSHcharger, forged internal components and a resonator exhaust, this is one good looking Mustang that really moves.”

With a maximum of 25 serialized units built on the 2010 chassis, this car represents the first time that ROUSH will completely re-paint a Mustang from front fascia to rear bumper. Mclaren mp4-12c

The details are finally rolling in about McLaren’s new roadcar, called the 2011 MP4-12C. Looking at its design, we can clearly see that they have gone back to their roots, integrating a lot of the design features from the 90s road car, with the obvious touch of today’s concepts.

This new supercar features a lot of top-end technology and design innovations such as the extensive use of carbon fiber and a one-piece structure called the Carbon Monocell. This tub-structure is surrounded by aluminium and plastic body parts, making it quite a light car. The tub itself also weighs in at just 80kg, making it so light that a regular aluminium type brake set is used instead of ceramic ones, saving an extra 8kg.

Even though there are no official stats on the car’s performance, the McLaren made (no BMW, no Mercedes engine) M838T 3.8 V8 engine chugs out over 600bhp and does 443 lb ft of torque. The 90 degree mounted engine pushes the car from 0-60 in the range of 3 and something seconds. On the environmental side, there are even petrol and diesel hybrid versions, and they also boast of the high ratio (the market’s highest thus far) of horsepower to CO2 emissions (300g/km).
Sorry, but here on GHI, we don't really give a rip about a cars CO2 emissions...................

With power being focused on the lower end of the rev chart (below 2000rpm), its acceleration is crazy fast, and on the overall, it can do over 200mph quite easily. There are also the line of techno controls such as Brake Steer feature which kills out a significant amount of understeer by braking the inside of the rear tires.

Mark Vinnels, McLaren Automotive’s Programme Director said: “We are very encouraged with this first release of performance data from the latest XP-Beta development cars. We are focusing on ‘real-world’ performance that has relevance for 12C drivers on track or on road. As you would expect of McLaren, we are aiming to set new standards for all performance criteria, from top speed to fuel economy, in-gear acceleration to braking distances and carbon dioxide emissions.

“What these results don’t show though is the overall package compared to our competitors that will make the 12C easier to drive, more comfortable to spend time in, and dynamically jaw-dropping,” Vinnels concluded.

Continued development and testing programmes in New Zealand, Arizona, Spain, and at venues including the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring will deliver further performance figures in the summer before the first customer car is built at the McLaren Technology Centre in late-2010.

The innovative one-piece moulded carbon-fibre chassis (the MonoCell) is the key to the 12C’s performance, forming the structural heart of the car, and an ideal occupant cell that delivers exceptional crash testcrash test results and a unique driving environment.

The MonoCell’s low weight, structural rigidity, dimensional accuracy and innovative four-hour manufacturing process are the factors that support McLaren Automotive’s decision to structure its range of cars around this racing-derived technology. This concept is a core strand of McLaren’s DNA:

* McLaren was the first racing team with a carbon chassis (the 1981 MP4/1)
* The McLaren F1McLaren F1 was the first road car with a carbon chassis
* The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLarenMercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is the most successful carbon-based car for sales ever (2,114 between 2003 and 2009)
* In the past 30 years, McLaren has not built a car with a metal chassis

The structural integrity that a carbon chassis offers then allows McLaren Automotive the freedom to clothe the car with a combination of aluminium and low-density SMC (sheet moulding compounds) panels that, themselves, are ground-breaking: the SMC panels are 11 percent lighter than on any production car.

Reducing weight is an obsession at McLaren, borne of the principles that have driven McLaren’s racing teams to more motorsport success than any other: recent developments have lowered the MonoCell’s weight further to below 80 kilos, whilst continued lightweight engineering supports McLaren Automotive’s plans to launch the 12C at a lighter dry weight than any competitor at around 1300 kilos.

McLaren Automotive is aiming for the 12C to be at least 75 kilos lighter than its nearest competitor and a long list of further lightweight solutions highlights the 12C’s introduction as a new type of sports car, driven by McLaren Automotive’s obsessive attention-to-detail. Examples include:

* Standard composite brake system of forged aluminium and cast iron is lighter than the optional carbon-ceramic brake system, saving five kilos
* Low-weight Lithium-Ion battery saves 10kgs
* Lightweight magnesium structural beam supports the dashboard
* Small, twin-turbocharged V8 engineV8 engine delivers 600PS from 3.8-litre capacity
* Rear mounted engine cooling radiators minimise the pipework, the fluids contained within them, and therefore weight. They were also mounted in car line to minimise vehicle width and weight.
* Hexagonal aluminium wiring saves four kilos over circular wiring.

Not only is the 12C incredibly light and fast, it also features a range of new technologies, many inspired by Formula 1, and all unique to McLaren. In fact, the 12C has been described as ‘pure’ McLaren: all content in the car is bespoke to the 12C, from the switchgear to the engine:

* Brake Steer aids balance and grip through fast corners either acting as a safety control or an aid to performance on the track
* The AirbrakeAirbrake increases downforce and therefore grip at speed and moves the centre of pressure rearwards under heavy braking
* Proactive Chassis Control negates the requirement for mechanical anti-roll barsanti-roll bars and distributes damper control hydraulically between wheels and axles resulting in minimal roll at high speed combined with compliant suspension articulation in a straight line and over uneven road surfacesroad surfaces

Neil Patterson, Chief Engineer for the McLaren MP4-12C said: “Our goal for the 12C, and future McLaren cars, is to offer what we call ‘accessible performance’, no matter what the driver’s ability.

“With that in mind, with the technologies we have introduced, and with a small and lightweight, low- and mid-mounted enginemid-mounted engine, we have been able to deliver what we feel is a perfectly balanced chassis. The 12C will be a joy to drive in town, on an AutobahnAutobahn, or on a track. There is no compromise and huge flexibility,” Patterson concluded.

Notes to editors:

The McLaren MP4-12C goes on sale in spring 2011 from bespoke McLaren Automotive retailers in 19 countries across the globe. It sits in the market of ‘core’ sports cars that cost between £125,000 and £175,000 and will feature innovative technical and customer-focused engineering and design that will offer new levels of performance in its price bracket.

The 12C will be built initially at the award-winning Fosters+Partners-designed McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking, England. In spring 2011, the innovative combination of hand-built and ‘lean’ production processes will transfer to the new £40 million McLaren Production Centre next door to the MTC.

The McLaren Automotive retail network will be confirmed through the second half of 2010, along with pricing of the 12C and final performance figures for the car.

2010 Geneva Motor Show - Porsche Cayenne

Porsche is going reveal the second generation Cayenne at the Geneva motor show this weekend. Longer and lighter than its predecessor, the new SUV is more powerful yet more fuel efficient than the model it replaces. It will also be available with a hybrid powertrain for the first time.

Though the changes appear to be subtle, the new Cayenne's design is now more closely aligned to that of other Porsche models. The front face employs similar headlamps as the Cayman and the LEDs, tucked into the upper corners of the gaping airdam, are akin to those on the recent 911. The rear end, however, with its taillamps bleeding over onto the rear fender, have an innate Japanese-like design quality. We hope they will be better experienced in the metal.

Along with the 48mm increase in length, the new car's wheelbase has also been extended by 40mm, offering occupants more space and variability inside. The most significant enhancement within the interior is the center console rising up to the front with its upright selector or gearshift lever, lending a more sporting character to the driver-oriented cockpit.

The new Cayenne will be available in Europe from May. Not sure when it's coming to the US.

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera released.

Whew, that was a mouth full.

As Lamborghini continues to nip and tuck its current model line-up for more market mileage. Surely, they are due for an all-new model soon??
But until then, this lighter lightweight Gallardo ups the ante. Thanks to some major weight loss (154 lb), it's reaching 60 mph from 0 in just 3.4 seconds... Epic.

2010 Aston Martin DB9 Mansory Cyrus - Naked Carbon Fiber Skin.

By show of hands, who here thinks that the Aston Martin makes some of the greatest looking cars out there right now?

*Throws hand up high*

Good. Getting that out of the way, who here thinks that the DBS could use a little more, "look at me I'm a supercar" added to it? I'm not talking about 22 inch chrome wheels or crazy paint jobs.
But maybe a little exposed Carbon Fiber here and there, or a more aggressive stance, or maybe a very loud but incredibly tasteful new interior.
You know, just a little something so that you can tell from a far that this isn't just your ordinary car.

The folks at Mansory have come up with just the right "designer outfit" for the Aston Martin DB9, or the DBS to help it along in the Super Sports car looks department.

I do have to point out, being a front engined car, the phony roof-mounted air scoop is a bit on the cheesy side. But hey, I could live with it.

From Mansory:

THE LIMITED EDITION OF 15 MASTERPIECES BASED ON ASTON MARTIN DB9 OR DBS.

MANSORY CYRUS – SPECTACULAR BROAD CONSTRUCTION BASED ON THE ASTON MARTIN DB9 OR DBS.

Perfect processing and an elaborate technology are the hallmarks of this masculine aerodynamic power pack. A coilover suspension provides the best road holding and emphasises the striking rims in XXL.

The refinement is perfected by an exclusive interior programme. Haute Couture on wheels Tailor-made processing and perfect surfaces confirm the superb quality of the MANSORY designer outfit.

The CYRUS aerodynamics components are made of extremely light „prepreg autoclav carbon“ and do not only include wing extensions for the front and back, but also side skirt attachments and linings.

At the front axle, a newly designed front skirt with enlarged air inlets provides the optimal ventilation for the twelve-cylinder aggregate.

The CYRUS front is visually enhanced with the newly designed carbon bonnet. With its two slotted “power domes” additional fresh air is directed to the front motor. Also at the tail, the refining engineers have invented something extraordinary in order to perfect the visual appearance of the Aston Martin. The newly designed rear skirt with the integrated diffuser emphasises the superior look and provides space for four stainless steel end pipes of the sonorous sport exhaust system.

Here's the question guy's, Would one, buy one?

The Aston Martin One-77 Technical Showcase.

Aston Martin is currently developing their future range-topper, the One-77. Aston says that the car has comfortably passed the 200 mph mark on a secret test track in southern Europe. The One-77 reached a maximum test speed of 220.007 mph in windy conditions. No report as to which way the wind was blowing.

My favorite part about this car is it's "Carbon fibre monocoque body structure". You'll find that i'm a sucker for anything carbon fibre. But in this case, it's the idea and state of the art technology behind the carbon fibre tub that serves as the spine of the supercar that really gets me going. Other cars that use this technology are, Mercedes Benz SLR Mclaren, The not-out-yet Mclaren mp4-12c and many others.

Here's the Press Release:

One-77 closes on new Aston Martin record

Gaydon, Tuesday 22 December. Aston Martin's One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.

The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.
